Hygromycin is an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus It prohibits growth of prokaryotic (bacteria) and eukaryotic microorganisms (yeasts) and mammalian cells. Hygromycin phosphotransferase(Hph) transfer phosphate to the hygromycin structure to prevent from binding to ribosome 70S. The mechanism of HpH is similar to that of Aminoglycoside phosphotransferase
